1933 Sedan rear shock "arms"
Hi all, Need to find some "Hens teeth" for a 1933 Sedan Deluxe. Rear shock lever arms? I can find up to 1932 no problem. After that, nothing. Doing a complete chassis restoration for a customer of mine and this is my biggest stumbling block. If I can't find any, I might try adapting the 32's. Any one had to do this? Any help is greatly appreciated!

More difficult to find than the fronts, yes, but not that difficult. Try Michael at [email protected].

Re: 1933 Sedan rear shock "arms"
I took a pair of straight arms about ahe right length (maybe Model A) and used o torch to bend the dog leg in them. Worked out well. Bill

The shock arms are hen's teeth, and working, non-leaking shocks are rare too! I've never seen any originals that weren't completly shot.

Re: 1933 Sedan rear shock "arms"
I would think 35-36 arms would be easier to convert to, they fit the same shock and are about the same length

Re: 1933 Sedan rear shock "arms"
Wow! Thank you for all the responses! I will try both sources. "Roadster" I believe there is very little difference between the 33 and the 34. Yours could be just what I'm looking for. I do prefer the idea of NOS parts rather than reproduction. I have been mostly disappointed in repro. parts. Could you email me with price and contact information? [email protected].
Last night I just had to ruin a front "Spring perch" to get it out of the axle. Think you might have one of those? Thank you all so much!! JR. |

Re: 1933 Sedan rear shock "arms"
There is a big difference from 33 thru early 34 and the rest of 34 shock arms. 33 & early (Feb) 34 had a shock link that had both the shock arm ball and the ball on the spring perch on different sides. The somewhat later 34 used a link with the attachment balls on the same side. What switches the attachment points around is the shock arm. Remember the 33 front and rear shocks are mounted inside the frame rail, the 34 front shocks are mounted to the outside of the frame rail & inside on the rear.
The original spring perch bolts are $$ and there is only a extremely small difference between the 32 bolt and the 33-34 bolt. Bob Drake has repop bolts for 32 that are very nice. If you messed up the original perch bolt threads a bit they can be repaired. |

Re: 1933 Sedan rear shock "arms"
With respect, Terry, there is no difference between the all but the very early '32 spring perches and the '33-'34 perches except that the '40' prefix version comes with the asbestos-lined spring shackle bolt installed which replaced the rubber-lined spring shackle bolt used in on '32s.
I agree that if the object is to duplicate the original '33 rear shock arm by altering another model year's arm, the '34 arm is about the worst possible starting point because of the reversal of the ball end of the arm combined with the angle of the arm away from the chassis frame. |

Re: 1933 Sedan rear shock "arms"
What great amounts of help! I love this old barn! Think I've got a handle on it. Terry, thanks for the info. Dennis has got me covered! As far as the perch goes...There ain't no saving that...Had to heat, hammer, cut, and Air hammer to get that thing out...Pass. side fell right out. Drivers, no way. Driskell has me covered there too!! So hopefully the first stumbling blocks are crossed. Thanks to everyone again, I'll post some progress pics if I ever figure out how to do that here.
