model a ground cable routing

does anybody have a pix of the ground cable routes on a 30 model a i know it goes to tht top of the bell housing but not sure exactly it goes

originally the model A battery ground cable went from the positive terminal of the battery to the cross member directly behind the battery.

the Model A never came with a ground cable from the frame to the engine. some suggest that one should be added, i think it is a good idea, if that is what you are thinking then put it anywhere between the engine and the frame. pleasing to the eye is the only suggestion i would make.

are you talking about a ground cable or the main power wire to the starter?

Yes, this is likely confusing however it is always best to call them by the correct name. The A-14301 Battery to Ground Connector was used from the + post on the battery to make the grounding connection. The 14300 Battery to Switch Cable connected the - post of battery to the starter switch terminal.

The battery ground goes to the frame, not the bell housing/engine/transmission.

Many times a 2nd ground cable is added which you may be referring to. That cable is in addition to the original/primary ground cable/strap. And it can go to and from wherever you prefer, frame to somewhere on bell or engine etc. Or right from the battery also.

Just use a heavy enough cable, #1 or #0. Heavier the better.

The simple second ground lead can go from the positive battery terminal to a bolt holding down the transmission top. It is an easy one to install...
This give you a ground to the frame and a ground to the running gear/engine.

Just remember that these cars have positive ground systems as other folks have mentioned. I've seen a lot of new owners that aren't aware of this practice. It was more practical on 6-volt systems due to the way the electrons flow and the low amount of voltage used. Ford dropped this practice in 1956 when 12-volt became the norm.

Now might be the time to install a battery cut-off switch. In the cable between the battery and the ground is the best place.
