Default fordwindshield Defroster - 1937

Help - I have a 1937 Ford that has a replacement 'V' windshield. There does not seem to be any provision for defroster vents. I'm guessing that the roll-out windshield was the method used to defrost the windshield. If so, can anyone offer a suggestion for incorporating defroster vents?

On my 38 there are slots cut with a cast piece below the dash that connects over to the heater.

The inside windshield molding on the driver's side used with the optional manifold heater had an opening for the defroster (partially obscured by the steering wheel in the photo below). There are a fair number of parts involved in providing the hot air from the right side exhaust manifold (for LHD vehicles) to the defroster outlet. The off/on control for defroster portion of the system mounted below the dash to the left of the steering column.

You can probably see in these photos there are two slots beside the slot for the window wind out mechanism. There are factory sheet metal defroster deflectors that connect to those under the dash and are fed from the original heater. I used the factory components to connect to my Vintage Air defroster tubes. These exit between the dash and the windshield frame and the hot air then washes up the window.

Sounds like you have a fixed in place, one piece windshield. Photos may help to see how it has been modified.

An experienced metal worker could open up your lower inner windshield molding to line up with the slots in the cowl indicated in bill3337's photo, but that would still leave the need to come up with routing air from your heater to the underside of the cowl slot(s).

RKS.PA,

Thanks.
