Default What is a Camel

I don't know what it is or what it fits. It does say it is for Ford. Any ideas???
I found it in an antique store and just had to have it. It was manfactured in Louisville KY where i grew up.

Cool, allows you to wash your hands with gasoline. Maybe for others but I wouldn't.

It’s says it stops splash thru the air vent and allows you to get gas out of the tank to wash your hands and remove a spot....I dont blame you....I would have bought it too!!!....Mark

It likely fits down into the gas tank through the filler bung but it would have to fit tanks that had easy access from the top like the Model T, A, or B. That would be the only way it could work as a dip stick. It also would likely slide up out of the tank bung a ways to act as a funnel to a certain degree although if it remains in the tank it would act as a baffle for filling but that's only if fuel can pass straight through. Whether it would work well depends on how well it fits. Not all Ford fuel tanks have a straight entry way in. The later cars had filler tubes interfaced with the fenders and some are curved.

Since the photo of the thing doesn't show but a side view, we can't tell if it has a bottom in it or if has anything else to it that can't be seen. If it is just a can with a bottom to it the it would have to come out to fill the tank. It would be the only way it could hold reserve fuel but it wouldn't hold much. Some contraptions like that are more hassle than they are worth and you would end up smelling like gas at every fuel stop whether you wanted to or not.

I believe it goes in the Model A gas tank, maybe attached to the gas cap. When the tank is filled, the Camel is filled. It maintains a small supply of easily accessible fuel to use for cleaning or to get you on down the road if you run the tank out of fuel.

Okay guys, here are more and better pics. There is small vent hole in the top. Only the one on the side. Bottom is closed. Top is threaded tip screw into something.

It is Ford Model T not Model A. Cool piece. The tube looks like it is soldered to a stock Model T gas cap. Looks like the whole thing would come out when the tank was filled and was refilled via the hole at the top when placed back in the tank. Guess the only time it filled was on a full tank. As a T owner we seldom fill nowhere close to were it would be of used, too much slosh out the vent hole if you do. Or it relies on ruff roads and slosh to fill it a little at a time. But again, guess it you installed it there might be less leakage and you could fill to the brim! If you had the cash money that is to fill it up.

And I think the Moose ended up being 'Frankensteined' together by spare parts from both the camel and the horse.

Fits a T and might give you enough gas to go that extra mile when you run out.

Think I'll take it to Louisville to the Street Rod Nationals and see if a T owner would like it.

I remember my grandpa teaching me to wash my hands with gasoline. And kerosene. And benzene.

Those were the days!

I think you would have better luck listing it HERE in the Model T swap section.

My grandfather worked in the oil fields. My grandmother washed his cloths in gasoline in a tub in the backyard. I remember even as a kid not thinking it was the best idea ever!

the tank around it will drain, but that metal cylinder will still stay full of gas.

You could pull it out and pour the cylinder of gas into the tank for a little bit more.. or use the reserve gas in the cylinder to wash greasy parts.. Kind of a gimmic.

I agree. Model T.
