35 Ford Exhaust System
I have all of the components to assemble my 35 exhaust system and have a
question or two. Would there have originally been any slots cut into the end of the muffler that slides over the engine pipe and the end of the tail pipe that fits over the other end of the muffler pipe? I have what I was told is an NOS muffler absent of the referenced slots and a reproduction tail pipe with none. Both appear to be nice snug fits. Thanks, Peter |

Re: 35 Ford Exhaust System
Peter, I can't speak directly to 1935. However, all of the mufflers and tailpipes I've had (NOS) through the years for 1939 / 1940 did not have "slots".

Re: 35 Ford Exhaust System
Peter, Many of the mufflers that I have seen for 35 Fords have slots on the inlet end of the muffler. The slots allow the larger tubing from the muffler inlet to tighten down on the exhaust pipe.

Re: 35 Ford Exhaust System
Mike,
The only exception that I know of is the initial version of the long portion of the two-piece '32 tail pipe, which had no slots (the slots were in the outlet pipe of the muffler. |

to me to have them there and on the inlet side of the muffler as Don indicated. Now to find an original style muffler inlet pipe as the one I have appears to be a poor copy of it and the offshoot pipe heading toward the crossover pipe is too short! DO ANY OF YOU KNOW OF ANYONE MAKING THEM THE WAY HENRY DID? Thanks for your input. Peter |
