Domed Engine Heads
Is it possible to use domed heads on a flathead that has flat top pistons? If
so what problem(s) may be created in doing so? |

Re: Domed Engine Heads
I would say lower compression....

Re: Domed Engine Heads
I just corrected this situation on a 1935 Ford that a friend bought. Lower compression as the other fellas have said.

Re: Domed Engine Heads
Mine is the other way around.
Domed pistons with early flat top piston heads. Am running 2 head gaskets ATM, until one day when it needs to be overhauled. |

Re: Domed Engine Heads
It is no secret. It is just a matter of Boyle's laws of physics.
When you compress a gas into a container (combustion chamber), the smaller the container, the higher the pressure for a given amount of input energy. Two mating flat surfaces have less area than two mating curve surfaces for the same diameter. |
