Default Windshield Glass Setting Tape

I have my 35 reproduction windshield frame ready for glass installation and am
doing a little research on what would be the best glass setting tape similar to
what might have been used originally. I know that the local glass company
didn't have an offering for this when I had a new piece of glass installed in my
36 frame.

I remember years ago I bought some from these folks.

Make sure you get the correct thickness.

Glass setting tape is readily available in many thicknesses. If your local glass company doesn't have it or can't get it, back away from them quickly.
Even ol' Back Order Bob [drake] has it a couple of thicknesses.

My Chevy had the driver's door window glass come out of the lower channel and I had trouble finding setting tape. I used two layers of Gorilla Tape and trimmed it with a utility knife. That's held for several years now. Of course, once I got it all back together, I found the proper stuff but I'm not going through door dis-assembly again!

Last one I did I used the glass black silicone in a tube from Safelite or Home Depot.I used to use glass setting tape and was always a struggle and you risk breaking the glass .The 35-36 frames are in 2 nearly equal halves so not difficult to do.I am talking about windshields only.

Thanks for the info men. I'm going to get some from the restoration supply
place. Had the black silicone used on my 36 frame, but prefer not to have it
used on the 35.

Carefully measure the thickness of the glass and divide that by two to get the correct setting tape. Check that with the width of the channel. C&G, our source of supply, sells four thicknesses: 1/32, 3/64, 1/16, 5/64.. Once in place, you trim the excess along the top of the channel. Tapes come in come width, 1 1/2", and 20 feet long. Order at 800/0470. Priced at $10 for the narrow width, $15 for the others.

I've used friction tape layered on top of each other with good results. Cut off excess with a razor knife.

Bought a roll from Drake to replace the vent window I broke, I forgot what thickness I bought but it worked great.
