Default 1939 banjo axle gear ratio ID

Hello I have a "9" and "4" stamped on the bottom of my banjo axle does this mean I have a 4.44 gear ratio? The axle is from a 1939 car. Thanks.

More likely there is a 3 missing or hidden and it originally said 9-34 and is a 3.78 which is a good ratio.

Ok thanks, I read elsewhere that if it were a V8 60 originally it would have a 4.44 rear axle ratio. Although I couldn't find "0" after the "4" .
