Default Dave, other 32 Woody owners, questions...

What type of oak was the floor boards, white, red? (not talking about toe and foot boards). Could the wagon have two taillights, dealer installed right? Was there a cross piece that ran under the floorboards just in front of the floor pan?

Thanks all,

Keep V-8ing and 4-banging!

Wanted, lower side sections of 32 radiator cowl.

I seriously doubt if a distinction was drawn between the wood of the various sub-species of oak for this purpose.

Like on every other '32 body type, a dealer could install a second tail lamp on the right side of a LHD station wagon using the same lamp bracket as was used on the left side (along with the steel grounding strap that ran from the bracket to the body-to-frame bracket on the extreme end of the frame.

No commercial (black) tail lamp housing was released without an opening for the license plate lamp, however. If you're lucky, you may find one of the period aftermarket license plate lamp lens cast in red glass or if not, and you still want a red lens on the right side, there is a red paint currently available for restoring faded plastic tail lamp lenses that works on glass as well.

Except for the steel floor pan between the rear wheel houses, all of the cross sills in a '32 station wagon were made of maple wood. But then I may have misunderstood your last question.

Dave,

The reason I asked about the oak, was I was sanding the floors of the wagon and found some holes and small areas of rot. I was planning on patching those and wondered what wood to use. Thought I would use the same species so as to not have any problems. Maybe I'm over thinking that.

I asked about the taillights because I found the three sets of screw holes on each side where the taillights would be screwed to the underside of the floor. There are also pieces of strap still attached to the frame.

As far as the maple, I thought the entire floor was oak.

Someone had placed a piece of wood down the center underneath the floorboards, just wondered if it was original.

Thanks again.

The fore and aft side sills and all of the structural cross sills were maple and the floorboards between the cross sills were oak. When all together it made for a pretty strong basis for the rest of the body (given the hefty dimensions and choice of woods); no additional support was required from below.
