I sincerely doubt that!! BTW Jim. Is your book back in print? If so where can I obtain one. PM me if you don't want to publish your address.

I own a 1928 Model A (AR).The original 6 Volt starter with the 1/2 starter shaft was broken and was shipped to USA for repairs. But i never recived the original starter in return.Bad luck To keep motoring i had to find a another solution. i found out that i could use a 12 Volt hi torque starter insted. The way i have done it is to still use the original ignition switch, and use the starter button on the floor by using a floor mounted starter switch from an Austin Mini.

Sincerely

Marius from Norway

there seems to be considerable disagreement on the use of a 6v starter in a 12v conversion.
I converted the system and retained my 6V starter. on start the impact was so severe I'd wince. Twice I broke the starter shaft and good ol Synchro modified it for me. If I'd had left it broken shafts would have continued and maybe something else as well.

I guess it is all still going well!

The math on using a 6 volt starter driven by 12 volts multiplies the torque by 4X! that is 4 times the torque driving the bendix gear into the ring gear. Eventually, the bendix will give or the ring gear teeth may take the brunt, but it will work for a long time. The actual starter motor will do fine, it can handle double voltage and current just fine.

I've used the NEW type drive on my original '30 starter motor for many years.
I'd suggest this mod to old starter. No damage.
