Default 1940 Engine ID help

Looking to find out more info about my engine

ID number located driver side, front of intake manifold machine surface as follows

# c u 73339

The " c u" may or may not be accurate.

Engine still in the car can't see the above the bell housing location

Those are not numbers applied by Ford during manufacture. They are most likely applied by a rebuilder or perhaps by some agency to identify that particular engine.

Please post good size photos of your engine with close ups of various components and their respective part numbers.

Suggest you get the V8 Club 1940 Ford restoration book plus look at Mac VanPelt web site. To identify the engine you have to look at characteristics of the short block only. May other year items can be added to the block that can confuse the blocks year of Mfg. such as heads and intake manifold.
