Default Model B water pump

Where dose a model B water pump bottom out in the head? On the shaft or on the impeller? Thanks

Same design as the Model "A", the shaft butts against a boss in the head.

That’s what I though too. But after examining 6 used pumps I can only see wear on the impeller and not on the end of the shaft. So I took a spare C head and it appeared the recessed area was not touched only the area where the impeller would hit was there wear. So???

It bottoms out on the impeller. There is a fibre flat washer between the pump impeller flat surface and the head.
