bobpo: Explain to your wife it's 80 years old and does not have the emissions equip on it like the newer cars, and therefore is worth MORE money. Or it's possible you're running rich, have an exh leak or both.

Shut off only.

"P.S. How do you know all this stuff anyway.......????"

I already sorta answered that, "God I love these cars. "

I spent my mid to late teens in a constant arguement with a freebie 1931 A.

Example: When you lay on the fender with the points wire in your hand making the coil spark for about a week it finally sinks in, "Wow, if I can do this and get spark why can't the points? Duhhhhhhhhh, because they are not grounded! Wow." Just another lesson I will never forget.

Youth knows no bounds. Especially in El Cajon.

About the gas, when you shut off the engine you hear the famous Model A sound "shhh uh shhh." That is the sound of the piston coming up on compression and not getting past TDC. Since the piston doesn't go past TDC it reverses and goes back down. While this is occurring the cylinder that was on intake is also reversed and blows intake air past the jets in reverse creating the puddle in the carb. To alleviate this you can anticipate shutting the engine off and turn off the fuel valve before hand. That way the car runs out of gas or nearly so, less or no gas, less or no fumes.

God I love these cars.
Hey? I thought we were having a lesson on clutches? But hey, that's a great tidbit of information. Is it bad for the engine to do that?

I keep my heel off the floor when using the clutch in order to make smooth gear shifts. The habit helps remind you to shift into neutral at traffic lights as it is tiresome to hold your heel up.

Also despite the light clutch in in my 1928 Tudor, even with size eleven shoes, I cannot easily depress the clutch with my heel on the floor.

should the 1" clearance be also for the V8 clutch and pressure plate which has 3 fingers?
