40 Business Coupe question
I have a car that was disassembled in 1958 by someone else. I hate putting something together that I didn't take apart but so it goes. Anyway, my question is about what goes down under the rear window that holds the panel upholstery (not the headliner) . I have the 2 curved metal pieces that contain tack strips that make the inside corner. Since this is the business coupe, the upholstery has about a 3" roll at the top that goes around the inside and the tack strips I have end, leaving about 16" gap in the middle under the window. Was there a piece of wood there or some other kind of tacking strip? Any description of this area or picture would be greatly appreciated. This car is a V8 (standard) coupe but that shouldn't make any difference in this area cture.
Kube hasn't done a business coupe (has opera seats) so he has no point of reference as it is different from the coupe. Thanks in advance for any comments. |

Re: 40 Business Coupe question
I seem to remember that there were two curved cardboard strips there that tucked in under the rear window.
I know that's not much help, but it's a long ago thought. |

Re: 40 Business Coupe question
My 40 coupe has a tack strip across under the back window to fix the head liner to. If I remember rightly it was screwed to the steel panel.
It then has an upholstered panel right across the rear of the compartment which goes up and covers over the bottom of the headliner and it also screws to the same tack strip. I'm not sure if this is exactly the way it was when it left the factory as previous owners have fiddled with the car in some ways but it must have been something like this. I have included a photo with the upholstered panel removed when I was installing a new headlining however if you want to see it with that panel installed I can get a photo tomorrow |

Re: 40 Business Coupe question
Here is a photo from the "For sale" ads. Shows the tack strips all the proper wood including the small pieces on the floor and on top of the torque tube tunnel. I am including a photo of the headliner previously posted on the barn, (NOT a business coupe).

Re: 40 Business Coupe question
The couple of business coupes I've had each had a wood "block" between the left and right curved tack strips.

Re: 40 Business Coupe question
Thanks all!! This is exactly the info I had hoped for.
It looked like a wood piece went between the 2 curved pieces, but wanted to make sure before I made something and put it in there. |
