Default What throw out bearing with 39 transmission

I am installing a 1939 transmission with a Clings adapter to my A engine. What throw out bearing collar do I use with this swap? Do I use the A stuff? I know this isn't stock, but is a fairly common mod to otherwise stock A's. So I thought I would ask here. I've already emailed the manufacturer.

thanks
Matt

No you don't need a V8 clutch, I just did this install. You do need a 32-39 throw out hub as the Model A one is to long, that's why I installed mine twice

The Model A throw out bearing (A-7580) from Snyder's is real nice. I was going to use the one I had in the old tranny but I wrecked it when I removed it from the hub. I'm glad I did because the new is a much better build.

Hmm not sure why it won't disengage the clutch than. It moves the full range along the shaft it rides on, but doesn't come close to the diaphragm fingers.

You need a early V8 like was said below. What kind of clutch plate and pressure plate are you using.

I don't have the pedal installed yet. I was just moving the clutch release shaft with my hand and looking in the access port on the bell housing. If I move the carriage of the throw out bearing far enough to contact the clutch fingers it gets stuck as it has moved off the shaft it rides on.

maybe my clutch fingers need adjustment?

I was waiting for an detailed explaination of the problem.

No need to mess with finger adjustments on the clutch. If rebuilder did his job there is no need to adjust anything.

There are atleast two versions of the main drive gear bearing retainer p/n 7050 I do not remember the prefixes of the part numbers.

One version measures 2 and 5/8ths inches and the other is 2 and 15/16ths.

I bet you have the shorter version and that is the cause of the problem.

You need the 2 and 15/16th inch version that should get you closer to the fingers.

The one on mine is 2 inches. The one on my buddies I just stole is 2 5/8 and seems perfect. Just about to try it now. But I think you are right, justmaybe wrong on measurements or is there a 3rd one? Thanks so much for the help! Matt

Nope, not the problem. Even with the new shaft that it can ride on the bearing is a inch from the clutch fingers.

Well I'm at the end of my limited knowledge, I wish I could measure mine but its together. But I am using the Model A clutch so I know it works at least up on jack stands. I went trough all the gears with it running and everything seemed fine.

Well mine is different. I used the Model A housing then used a flat plate to mount to the transmission. The V8 bearing was perfect.

Why not call Clings and see what they say.
