I’ve brazed with 15% silfoss but I’m a refrigeration mechanic.

I brazed some holes in a dipper pan a few years ago. JB weld might be OK, but what if it came loose? Not worth taking a chance. IMHO

I have brazed pinholes also. Replacement is probably a good option as well.

Just for the sake of it let's say a dipper pan has a pin hole in the dipper trough(s) and the oil drains out of it or all of them after shut down would it really be a problem? I say this as after starting the engine the troughs are going to refill very quickly and normal engine oil flow will keep them full and overflowing unless the holes are exceptionally large. Unless an engine sits for very, very, very long period of time there should be oil remaining in the clearance of the rod bearings to lubricate them for the short duration of time it takes for the oil troughs to refill. I've taken some engines apart that have sat for years and they still have a film of oil in the rod bearings.
Thoughts??

I agree with Mike Peters, and they should be repaired as it takes several seconds for the tray to fill. Oil is pumped first to the valve galley to feed the mains, then the excess goes to the tray, and number 4 rod is last in line.

What I do in situation like pin holes is put a piece of copper under the holes and MIG weld the holds up. I clamp the copper plate to the area where the holes are to be welded. I have found that magnets cause the MIG to not weld well - why, I have no idea. Sometimes the holes get a little large as the surrounding metal is thin, but just weld up the large holes. The copper backing keeps the MIG welding metal from blowing through the holes and weld will not stick to copper unless you really weld very heavily. I use a RotoZip with various shaped carbide burr cutters to dress down the welds - works great.

B and A engines can use the same tray look for a later A tray if you don't have a B tray, but repairing yours is not difficult.
