Engine compartment restoration
I am been away from the restoration of my model A, but now I am back at it.
I have installed a fuse, attached to the battery. The power from the battery connects to the terminal on the starter, with a connection taken to the fuse block. Electrical supply is the taken from the upside of the fuse block. Is this wired correctly? What is the proper fuse size? If I install a Disconnect Switch, do I still need the fuse? Thank you for your help. |

Re: Engine compartment restoration
They are usually 30 amp, but that always seemed high to me.
I had bad luck with this type of fuse block. Mine loosened and shorted. I switched to a modern spade-type fuse mounted in line in the same area. It was in a black weather-proof cover and was almost invisible. It was like these: https://www.amazon.com/10-Pack-EPAut...de+fuse+holder |

Re: Engine compartment restoration
Yes you need both the fuze and disconnect switch. If you are driving down the road an have a short the fuse will blow, without it the wire will burn potentially causing a fire.

Re: Engine compartment restoration
You never, ever want a circuit to be un-fused. Even with the manual shut off switch.

Re: Engine compartment restoration
I recently removed the tube type fuse holders and replaced them with a spade type. I have one on the main feed and also one on the headlight harness. Got them at O'reillys.
20 amp in the main, 15 amp in the headlight harness. Have not blown either so far... In the one picture you can also see the battery cut out switch under the starter. It's the type sold by the vendors with the starter bolt mount also offered by vendors.
