Default follow up to knocking noise at start up

Did the tests that was suggested with the first thread.....removed the plug from the side of the block....turned the engine over and oil shot out just by cranking the starter for a second so I new that was working the way it should......pan and inside the engine was clean as a whistle....cleaned the pump screen, it really didn't need it. When cleaning the dipper pan I found pin holes in the pan. Sea Slugs hit the nail on the head. Not enough oil in the pan. Dry starts. So question is how do you fix pin holes? That metal is so oily I don't think anything will stick to it.And I don't see dipper trays or oil pans in Snyder's catalog. Thoughts Please

A swap meet or wanted ad here on the barn will get you a new used tray. There are many to be had so fixing the old one may not be the best idea. You could clean it good and weld or solder the holes but that may be harder than finding another good one.

J B Weld worked for me, so far. I'll look at it real good the next time the pan is off.

first you have to degrease it completely...then depending on what you have, either get a good used one or solder or braze up the holes on the old one.

While the pan is off you might want to check the rod and mains for correct oil clearance.
