Default 31 fenders

Hi
Can anyone help in deciding which way to go concerning repro. fenders, how bad are the reproduction 31 Model A front fenders, I'm looking a purchasing a set but a bit worried about the fit, I know the dies are pretty well worn out and will need a lot of work to fit correctly, but at least you are starting with something that isn't weak from rust or the metal is fatigued from time or is it better to find a set of used fenders and repair what has to be repaired, has anyone bought a set of repro. fenders lately is the main shape still there, are they still worth buying or just get a good set of used and work from there.

Thanks
Russ

From what I've seen and been told, the main problem with new front fenders is the corner where they meet the running board. I think most body shops prefer to work with that over beat up used fenders. It just depends on the condition of your original fenders.

Heres the problem.....

I got a tad PO at them and re worked the roll in the corner a bit then decided to do a little cut and re weld...

It wasnt that bad, but for what you have to spend on a set I would have expected them to be better fitting.

Thanks for the information they don't seem to be as bad as what I have heard them to be from other people, at least 90% is good vs beat up rusted fenders.

Thanks everyone for your input

Go look here to see what I did to get one of the repros to fit:

Scroll down a bit to see all the relevant photos. I had an original fender that was pretty rough, but that problematic corner area was OK, so I used it as a mold to make a sort of poor-man's die, out of fiberglass.
