Default U joint / torque tube O-Ring "stop leak kit"w/gaskets

Thoughts on using the "o-ring" instead of the cork seal on the Torque tube. Anyone had experience with it? see pic

i haven`t seen that particular O ring, is it seamless and where did you source it? i used one of john kovar`s "spacecraft" O rings [it`s a piece of neoprene tubing that he sells for $8.00 ] . i have only one hundred miles on my vehicle, but the torque tube knuckle is dry as a bone.

That 0-ring looks like it might work. Where did you get it? Thanks.

I tried to use Hot Rod John's space shuttle O ring seal by keeping it in one piece and butting the ends together at the top of the clamshell UJ cover. Could not get it to fit and stay in place during assembly of the clamshell cover to the back of the transmission. Finally gave up on that and used a piece of square cross section cork as one piece gasket with ends butted at top. Worked good. Never tried an O ring but will if I can find one.

I never quite grasped the supposed necessity of a one piece seal in the 'clam shell". I have restored and also simply repaired numerous vehicles and have yet to have an issue with leakage in this area.

I think they originally just has a piece of round section felt rope in there to act as a dust shield.

jm35sedan and others, for what it`s worth, i used a small diameter neoprene tube that fit the I.D of the larger tube as a splice along with an anerobic adhesive to form a seamless joint.

That's a damn good idea, and you got a pretty big word there too!
Anerobic? My dictionary says that's pretty much the opposite of those hot women that used to do aerobics on Showtime! For my money, I'll take those women!

I have used the same bit of gland packing in the groove for years. Been in and out a few times; still doesn't leak.

I used a piece of 1/4 rubber fuel hose , sat in the groove nice an tightened up well no leak as yet and the car has been on the road for over 12 months now
