A '46 Ford SHOULD have a 99A- serial number, somewhere between 99A-650,280 and 99A-1,412,709. DD

I agree that the s/n should be the 99A but the problem I'm having is finding anything that talks about s/n starting with 98R. I don't know if this supposed to mean something different.

It could have always been a mis-stamp.

Nice coupe. Is Gramps still with us?

Mart.

Where are you seeing that "98R", and is this an American (USA) Ford? DD

The 98R is the begin of the serial number or VIN, under the hood on the frame by the steering column. And I believe it's an American (USA) Ford. But how would I be able to tell if is not?

I was reading that some of the 46' had parts reused fro. The 42' so a mis stamp isn't out of the question

No, he is not.

It looks like a early 47 it has no front marker lights. It also looks like a Long door that was called a sedan . I don't know why .

Front marker lights? talking about the running lights? Please explain. Because I thought the 47' they put the turn signals under the headlights, vise them being towards the center of the car. So that's why I thought this one was a 46'

Sure looks like it has front parking lights and the '46 vertically embossed upper grille bar.

Its a 46, it has the running lights up next to the hood, the reflection sort of obscures them!!!!

Afraid you are mistaken, sir. The parking lights are above the headlights. Looks to be a 46.

I can see where 99A could be mistaken for 98R if the stamping was not clear.

So, originally there should be a plate on the engine bay firewall with the serial number. I take it is missing? While the practices varied by assembly plant, I'm not familiar with any that stamped the serial number on the bell housing.
