Default Hard to believe what almost got throwing out!

To make a long story short..I was contacted by someone who knew of me.."young guy with old cars" and asked if I would be interested in coming to look at some old car parts or they would be going to the landfill by the end of the month. I told the lady I would be over which she lived 40 mins away from me. When I got there, this is what she had that was going to be tossed if I didn't take it.

I guess her husband at one time had a 1930 Ford Model A Roadster but sold it before he passed away. She's moving away and wanted to clear everything out. She wanted nothing for it but I gave her some money anyways. What do you think everything is worth here? (everything but the Quail was going to get tossed) Still exciting to see parts like this popping up...I'm just glad I was there to stop it from getting junked.

It's frightening to contemplate how many times this has happened, no one has been notified, and it just gets tossed.

Nice Save.
$100.00 minimum on the horn if it works. The powerhouse generators as cores minimum of $50.00 each more if they work. Original wiper if its salvageable $25.00 up. Distributor $25.00 and up. These are prices I've encountered and sold them for. I'll let others price the rest. It's good you gave her something for her husbands treasures.

If this was April 1st I'd know you were joking. Hard to believe anyone would even think of throwing out hundreds of dollars worth of parts. Notice that one powerhouse is Canadian, which seems to be fairly hard to find.
I wonder if the cars shipped to Austrailia and New Zealand all had that same powerhouse?

What I can't figure out is how those coal stove shaker grate handles wind up in old cars.I have a half dozen, maybe more.I find them in cars, trucks, boxes of parts, everywhere. All I can think of is that somebody picks it up,thinks old car=crank and throws them in.A local scrap place has a bunch of those old bulb horns in his office. He has a lot of them show up.He's pretty careful about stolen stuff, but he says a lot of them come in from his regular guys that do cleanouts.

Wow, what a good find. Nice to hear you forked over a little cash to help her out. Looks like an easy 6-7 hundred worth of stuff.

Don't you wish you had a time machine and could hang out at the scrap yards when metal was being collected for scrap drives during WWII. I'd like to hear stories of how much stuff was scrapped. Now China collects our scrap and maybe we will have to make our future cars out of all plastics.

Actually china collects all our good stuff and sends us their scrap.

Reminds me of the story my dad told me a couple of years ago - he found out through a mutual friend after the fact.....
This guy passed away, Dad knew him, but not very well, and not well enough to know he had a Model A - the guy's wife sold the car "cheap" (she had no appreciation for his hobby) and PAID someone $150 to clean out "all these junk car parts out of her garage" and supposedly there was enough stuff to build another complete car - she had no idea of what he hubby's "old junk car hobby" was worth

That aluminum camshaft drive gear that you have there, was made in Canada by Alcan Aluminum. The suppliers are have been carrying a special lock nut now, which fits nicely into the gear recess. That style of gear was also made with two or three oversizes.

Hey Tom,

How can you tell it's a Canadian generator?

If you are ever considering selling the Canadian Genny, the owner of this original Canadian Brantford Cab is in the market for one.

Nice collection of parts. Does anyone know if that triangle plate topper "Four Wheel Brakes" is an item that was used here or is it something used in the UK? Bob

Came across something like this 1 month ago. Guy was into the Model "A's 50 years ago and collected parts. 3 engines [1 looked like it was pulled out complete ] 4 - 2 blade fan's ,good drums, head lights , carbs, tranny and parts,,,, that kind of stuff. Offered him a good price for the lot .Seems it was in a shed and the roof leaked 10 years ago ,, not pitted but light rust [nothing that a quick blast can't fix] .Well he said i might just scrap for metal while the price is good... So i bait the hook by giving all the hardware i had and tools for working on planes... 6 lg. boxes of nuts , bolts, washers, all aircraft stuff from GE ... A ton of parts....Do you know he might list the parts on Ebay or Craig's list... ??? cheap son of a @&^%$ I am no more nice guy with this *&^(.

The one on the bottom in your picture has a different shape and larger diameter, even though the the insides are the same.
