Default 1954 Mercury Oil Pan Removal

Does anyone know if you can remove the oil pan without having to remove the front stabilizer bar on a 1954 Mercury 256 Y-block?

If I remember correctly I had to turn the engine over by hand a couple times to clear the rods, and keep pulling it back until it clears

I don't recall having to remove the stabilizer on my '55 Merc, which is similar to you '54 under the skin, but it might be a good idea. It's not a difficult job. I did have to drop the drag link by unbolting the idler arm bracket and swinging it out of the way.
