License Plates
Have pair of original VA tags w/ original paint. Both colors (black background, orange letters/numbers) are moderately faded. Would appreciate suggestions how to best rejuvenate these plates. Really prefer not to repaint them rather something to enhance the existing colors.

Re: License Plates
The only thing I can think of is to wipe them down with some ATF. I have a similar pair of MN 1928 plates on my car, and I'm surprised how much they have gone downhill in 15 years. I might have to repaint them in a few years at this rate.

Re: License Plates
The American Pickers show use liquid gold to bring back old signs! I used color back on old faded cars and trucks, I don't think turtle wax is making it anymore :-( What ever you try, try it on the back side on a small area.

Re: License Plates
I used Liqud Gold and was pleased with the results but it is very temporary. After three coatings I finally had them refinished. They are flawless. Wayne

Re: License Plates
try this stuff:
https://www.google.com/shopping/prod...FQSnaQod-j4HRw every auto parts store and i think walmart carries it. works great for removing oxidation. You must put a layer of real wax on once you get this stuff off or it will "fade" again in a hurry. Ive done an entire 1992 blazer with it. Went from about as shiney as a piece of red sidewalk chalk to seeing my reflection perfectly in it pretty much what the bottle shows. Costs is under $10 for the bottle.

Re: License Plates
You might check with some off your friends that have gun collections. I bought a preservative spray at a gun shop about 40 years ago that would probably work great on your license plates.
