Default '32 sedan windshield frame.

I am in the process of replacing the rotten windshield frame on my sedan. In removing the screws which hold the hinge brackets and slider brackets to the frame I noticed that all 4 pieces are also held to the frame by what looks like a rectangular weld in the centre of each piece. Was this the way that the factory did them as they felt the screws were not enough to hold things together?
Also the L shape brackets which attach to the slider arms seem to have holes which are too big for the replacement tube nuts that go in there. Would these brackets have had bushes originally that are now missing?
Thank you.
