Deck surfaces look very good to me. It looks like you may have at least one broken head stud to deal with though.

I don't remember seeing a broken head bolt but I might have missed it. I'd like to find more info on the Canadian 8BA but haven't found much so far. Those Ford script valves are almost too cool to cover up with a head! I've pulled one rod bearing (I'll attach a picture) there aren't any markings for being undersize. There is a slight cylinder ridge but really can't catch it with a fingernail. The bearing is marked "6 49" can that be a mfg date?

Crazy part is the bearing doesn't look worn out...

I would not be surprised if the rod journals are standard. Can you put a mic or a caliper on them to measure?

Hi Art,

I'm not trying to raise an issue that may not be there. This is stud hole I'm wondering about. More experienced eyes here can probably comment. Even if broken, I sure wouldn't pass on it for that!

Has these interesting lock tabs on the rod nuts.

Checked, that was a spider-web. No broken off bolts.

Another wild thing is the cracks (that have a ford part number joke) between bolt hole and coolant hole... it doesn't have any.
I'm still waiting for the "got-cha" on this thing.

That's great Art no left hand drill bits, broken off taps, welding to the stud, etc., etc. ....;-))

I've already removed 5 broken off bolts from my original engine, so I'm keeping in practice.
