Rubber mounting the muffler

For anyone that is curious, I installed a Walker 36272 universal exhaust hanger last night to replace the stock clamp.



The hanger required some bending and modification to fit but on a test drive I would say the overall feeling of noise and vibration in the car has been reduced by about 25%. For the $4.50 that the hanger costs and the hour or so taken to install it I think this is a very worth while modification for those that don't have high point cars.

Thanks Ryan, I have often wondered about what effect the solid mounted exhaust was having and if anyone had done anything..

If the exhaust tail pipe is mounted solid, it was done wrong.

Correct. Mine was floating in the clamp but steel on steel that isn’t clamped tight is gonna vibrate. I wanted to try the clamp they sell with the asbestos-like lining but this was cheaper and free shipping.

I've done something quite similar with my AA. No noises at all. I am pleased with it.

You transfer vibration,you cant remove it,the tail pipe clamp transfers vibration to the frame.By stopping this transfer the result in the car is noticeable,but you are relying more on the lead pipe flange/exhaust manifold connection to handle the vibration..and that flange does fail even with a stock tail pipe clamp.

Tried that with a insulator bushing. Waste of time.

did you use the same frame hole? could you post a picture? Im not picturing how the different style clamp gets the job done. I think i want to do this mod on my car.

Good idea, think I will put one on my CCPU.
Pretty easy since it is currently without a body.

I tried one of these with a 28-29 clamp, works well no rattle.
