I had my car idling in the drive way and it died. Now when I try to start it she turns over fine but will not start. The ammeter does not move when I am turning it over. Any suggestion? It was running perfect before it died

Does the amp meter move at all when you turn the key switch on? The key switch may be bad, The car will turn over even if the key switch circuit is not closed. But the car will not start because the key circuit is not closed. If the amp meter does not move a little when the key is turned, then check the wires on the back of the key switch and the amp meter, one may be lose and shorted. Otherwise check to see if its firing. Could be a number of things, but if it was running fine, and just quit, it must be electrical. Unless it not getting gas.

I think it is electrical.
The ammeter does not move when I turn the key on or when it's turning over.
Both are fairly new so I will check the connections

I would also check to see if the points are opening and closing. Check to see if points gap has decreased. You need a gap anywhere from .018 to .022 . If you are running the V8 condenser, they are prone to failure. If nothing else worked I would bypass the ammeter as a test. Try jiggling the ignition switch . A lot of bad switches have been on the market for a number of years. I had to go with a switch that cost more than fifty dollars to have a switch that is dependable.

Loose wire on the back of the switch. All is good now.
