Default carburetor pukes gas when choke is pulled

Trying to start my barn find. I had the carburetor rebuilt by friend who is a competent mechanic, but it pukes gas out of the end if I pull the choke while turning it over. Am I doing something wrong or is the problem with the carb?
Thanks
Mark

yes up draft systems tend to do that when they dont start right away. as long as it is not running out all the time like a stuck float valve. did you ck for spark, adj points and timing ?? good fresh fuel?

Just give it a quick SHORT choke! Dripping gas is normal if you over choke it. Bill W.

Thanks Mitch. I have spark and new clean fuel, local parts dealer (Floyds Model a parts) was out of points so I think I will track a set down and replace them, the ones that are in there now have seen better days. I'm not sure on the timing but have a friend coming over to help.

Mark,

Do you have compression? Did you check the spark to assure it was at the spark plug? Does it fire at all? You may be correct about the points. I had a similar problem when I tried to start my coupe when I first got it home. It was the points.
