53 Ranchwagon Radiator
Had my radiator recored. Are the brackets on correctly? The fan is very close to the radiator. I think if the brackets were switched it would give me more room..Help..Thanks

Re: 53 Ranchwagon Radiator
The radiator in my '54 Ranch Wagon appears to be mounted the same way. HRP

Re: 53 Ranchwagon Radiator
I have the stock radiator out of my '54 Ranch Wagon on the floor in my shop. I can take some measurements and photos of that would help. Just have to go and do it. Let me know.

I think mine is correct, but the fan is just too close. |

Re: 53 Ranchwagon Radiator
On my '53 Ranchwagon (also recored), the brackets look to be about 7/8" in front of the core. The back side of the core is about 1" from the fan. I took several cell photos and I'm happy to share, but I've never figured out how to post pictures. If you want photos, PM me and I'll send somehow.

Re: 53 Ranchwagon Radiator
Photos attached. The side bracket is not the same distance from the core at the top and bottom. It goes from 3 1/4 at the top of the bracket to 2 1/4 at the bottom.

Re: 53 Ranchwagon Radiator
Close is not a bad thing. 1/2" to 1" is ideal, I think, for pulling air through the radiator. Any further away, parasite air gets sucked in from around the perimeter of the fan rather than pulled through the radiator fins.

Re: 53 Ranchwagon Radiator
Thanks for the pictures. Mine are on correctly. I will just have to loosen the mounts, and maneuver the engine a little bit. I know the holes in the frame had some adjustment to them. I am almost there. Thanks again.

Re: 53 Ranchwagon Radiator
The radiator in post 8 appears to be for a 6-cylinder and they may be different from a V8 radiator.

Re: 53 Ranchwagon Radiator
Also, unless you know for sure, assuming a '54 ("Y"-block) radiator set up is the same as a '53 (flathead) puts you on shaky ground.
