Default 1951 sedan hood brackets

Does anyone know about the(4)shoulder bolts that mount the 51 hood? I have one bolt that is stripped , I bought a set of new bolts but I don't know if they thread into a floating insert or a stationary nut.I think I can remove one bolt at a time but if it is a floating nut it will fall out when I separate the two and it will be trapped and loose behind the bracket My workshop manual is in the storage garage and I can't get to it until May so I would appreciate any suggestions. I have a feeling I have to remove the hood and place it on a blanketed table to replace the shoulder bolts ??? Thanks in advance, Barry B./ Ma.

Use some good penetrating fluid and just replace one at a time so it won’t lose the adjustment. The nuts shouldn’t turn. ........Mark

yes, I think That's the problem, the forward nut must be turning but I cant get to it to hold it, seems loose in there and I don't dare to get the bolt out then the nut will fall. Cut a hole in the bracket with the hood still mounted ??

I had to cut one of those to get a nut in there, but the hood was already off. Anyway, I just cut kind of a flap and then welded everything back so it's not noticeable. So if you can't cut a bolt, maybe cut that flap to get to nut.

keep in mind if you get in there with a grinder, the sparks are hot enough to gouge in to glass and paint

Lesson learned long ago, grinders (or any spark producing device) and glass do not play well together!
