Thanks

Dana, be careful when tightening down on the gaskets. the neoprene ones they sell these days seem to distort when compressed. I prefer the cork gaskets , but Brattons dose not offer them any more so I had to get them from Snyders.

Unless the formula of the neoprene has changed, they will swell.

For the large thin brass ring, I like to use two.

For the glass I would only use cork.

Thanks Tom: mine had two brass rings and did use cork all the way. Took longer to clean up tank flange than to take apart and put back together. Haven't filled up with gas yet, gauge works and looks good.
Thanks

What type of paint is used for the lettering or numerals on the fuel gauge? I don't want it to dissolve from the fuel.
Mine was pretty much worn off when I removed the gauge from the tank on my 29 Town Sedan. I had 3 brass rings on mine. Thanks, Bob

Just rebuilt my dads early 28 truck, and it was a little strange. Haven't seen this before. Got my cork gaskets from Arizona Model A. The neoprene gaskets were too thick. The little metal part was oval and there was a thick part of the glass that acts as a magnifying glass.

Two of my Model A's also have the oval magnifying glass. I wire wheeled the metal plate, then used a razor to cut a thin slice of clear tape to put across the middle to form the gauge line. If you lay the tape across the edge of a steel rule, then run the razor down each side of the edge, you will have a perfect this strip of tape to form the line. I then sprayed the plate with Krylon semi gloss black.

I would only use cork gaskets, and never the black gaskets that swell from crap gas.
