Re: radio parts i.d. help
Motorola manufactured radios and were popular in the aftermarket trade but I don't know of any that were sanctioned as accessories for Ford vehicles. Zenith & Philco both made radios for Ford.
That one looks like a 529 which would have been an aftermarket radio to fit Ford cars. Last edited by rotorwrench; 07-17-2018 at 03:21 PM. |

Don't scrap. I sell at the Monroe swap every year, and old radios are a popular item. Also there are several radio guys and can repair them.

Re: radio parts i.d. help
It looks to have cable operated controls but the amplifier box is be missing. It's just the control head & speaker only. It was apparently set up to be mounted high in the dash with the speaker in the center. A lot of GM cars were set up that way in the early 40s. The 1941 Ford was also set up that way but the earlier cars have the controls under the speaker. The 1941 Ford radios were a complete unit with controls, amplifier chassis, and speaker all mounted in one metal box. Ford did use remote control heads in the dash back in the early to mid 30s. They mounted the amplifier box on the dash in a separate location.

Re: radio parts i.d. help
My '41 had a motorola 409 radio with remote dial on top of the dash and cables that went to the amp/speaker mounted on the firewall. the ends of the dial are round, sides straight and sure looks like a factory punch out. no push buttons, just tune and volumn
