Default spray on chrome

Has anyone tried this? My bumpers might be a good candidate

Funny that you mentioned this because Mike at Future Chrome has literally bugged me to death to become an installer for their product. Several times they have called and I told him to send me a sample of what it looks like. Each time he tells me they don't send samples. He called again this morning, and I told him quit calling unless he had something to show. Today he told me to bodywork up some small item and send it to him and he would spray it with the chrome and send it back. I have been trying to think of something small I could send. Suggestions?? (He already told me not to send a bumper or something big!!)

One thing about this process is it will scratch or chip exactly like urethane paint does. Not sure about a repair process but I suspect it would totally need to be sanded and resprayed. Just thinking about Model-A parts, by the time you blast something, bodywork, sand & prime it, go thru the chroming process and etc., I am not so sure there would be any cost savings. Remember, any pitting or sand-scratches in the substrate will show thru into the sprayed chrome, ...which the same can be said for plating. That is likely why plating costs what it does.

Ohh, and they do not offer a Nickle-tinted spray paint.

What Brent says about flaws showing through. I believe the material (whatever it is) goes on very thin.
Brent I guess you want to send him something small that is chromed anyway. How about a dash light cover, door handle, radiator cap or fuel tank cap.
If you get a sample done, please be sure to report back here.

Wonder what a whole car would look like in chrome??

My bumpers are structurally sound but becoming ugly. I got quotes from local chromers but it exceeds replacement costs. It would be cheaper for me to just order new stainless steel ones. I could sand them smooth and put the coating on them. I know it's just paint, but it could be cost effective.

Could it be a process like the "new" wood graining technique Honest Charley's and Juliano's use??

Just got my TRC -1A wiper back from the chrome painter after my plater refused to do it.

I was not impressed......

His process looked very much the same as in the video, but the wiper was returned with orange peel in the finish, blisters and some places where the coat had been torn off when removing the masking tape.

He excused himself with the parts being small and difficult to spray. Anyway, I wouldn't want spray chrome on anything large like a bumper for the reason that Brent mentioned : it will scratch. The attached photo shows wrong color (it isn't pink in reality) but clearly shows the orange peel and the blisters.

I might use it as is since I am worried that the super-fragile casting will not tolerate any more fiddling, and most people will probably not notice, but I am definately not satisfied.

A recent Counting Cars show had a demo of a new spray-on "Chrome" process. The finished look was a little darker than gennie stuff. I think they added some color during the spray process. Had the chrome look.

Do not know which program. About 2-3 months ago..

I believe that the basic finish is whitish silver. Then they add a slight tint in the clear cote. - Blueish for chrome

clean up a bumper clamp or instrument panel and send that, or if you have a broken off horn rod send the steering wheel end

You should indeed expose the company. He is obviously not a professional and other people should be alerted. Wayne

I was wondering about that! Can you re silver a mirror effectively with it? Or will it peel off the glass?

If it walks like a duck and squawks like a duck? If it goes on like paint and scratches like paint-it's not paint? For the OP-if you want an "original" Model A-pony up for the re-chrome. If you want a nice "original-looking" Model A go with the stainless. I opted for the stainless. They have held up great. I drive my A and I figured as soon as I got one scratch/ding/rust spot on new chrome bumpers, I'd be really sorry I had opted for them. So far, no regrets from the stainless.
