Default I am confused about the new judging standards

I got my new judging standards in the mail, and I am confused. One package is 2016 revision, one is 2011 revision, and then the index cards, and one additional page. Do I use these packages to update my old standards book, or do I use both the 2011 and 2016 packages alone, or do I just use 2016? I did not get an instruction sheet, and I guess I am not smart enough to know what to do next.
Can someone explain what goes where?

Did you buy the complete $55 book?

Or did you buy the $30 "update"?

What you do with what you received depends on which you ordered.

Bill,
Take the loose sheet and save it till the very end.
Assemble both revs in the new binder and with the new tabs.
Start with the Rev 3, then Rev 4
When you finish, swap out the new loose page.
Throw away the single page you swapped out.
Now you have the current complete standards in a new binder.

Do not involve your old standards.

Your final document assembly must contain both 2011 and 2017 revision pages. It sounds like you ordered the complete RGJS and you didn't get any instructions?

FYI - I purchased only Revision #4 - ($30+shipping) - It came with a page of instructions for replacement of the current document pages. The current document includes some 1994 revision pages, 1998 revision pages, and 2011 revision pages.

Once revision #4 was used to update the current document, then there were only 2011 revision and 2017 revision pages.

Why did you not just call MAFCA and ask for the instruction sheet or instructions ? Wayne

Thanks Vince. That makes more sense.
So do some of the pages of 2011 get replaced by 2016?

Yes. It can be a little confusing because some of the new pages say 2011
Revision on one side, but the changes are on the other side and say 2016 revision.

I got it assembled. Thanks for the help. I would have hoped that since I bought the complete book that it would have come assembled. I guess that was expecting too much.

That was not expecting too much it was only logical. The entire exercise turned into a farce. Wayne

I bought the rev 3 several years ago and had to go thru this same debaucle. I was hoping to buy the complete version this time and get a complete assembled book. So much for great expectations.

Can you buy the complete assembled unit for those who have no prior issue?

$66.50 and you get a kit to put together, not a new complete, assembled book.

I would agree that the new Judging standards book production is a pain to assemble. and not in any way explained, I'm over that.
But for $55 you get 2 sets of stuff you have to fold / weave / nit together, just like the cars we work on.

Is there an index of the changes for 2016? that would be nice.
Can these be purchased in .pdf format?
Would seem much easier to just buy an "J.S." subscription, and not produce the paper.
Would make the Clubs more $ profit too.

It is a bit of a pain but I assume the club staff is lean and it would be a huge task to do all that collating and assembling. Even worse if you get the original book, the 2011 revisions AND the 2016 revisions. If we are willing to work on our cars, I assume we can do this, too.

To add insult to injury, apparently, the revision came back from the printer without the holes in the pages, so that had to be done after the fact, too.

We are fortunate to have a club(s) and members who are willing to undertake an effort such as this. Hard enough for one club, but to have two to work with makes the result even more impressive. I am with the others on this site who extend their thanks to all those who made this possible!

The clubs are run by volunteers and it is fully understandable that they do not assemble before shipment. In fact, it was better to assemble myself, as this at the same time made me aware of what has changed.

I think the instructions on the front page of the package were very clear and had no problems in assembling the package. - Now that assumes that you actually follow the instructions to the point and one after another. If you jump ahead, start browsing and perhaps re-shuffle pages while or before assembling, yes then you may be lost, but that isn't what it says in the instructions. If you stick to the instructions, you'll be OK.

Finally, do not throw away any of the old pages, - keep them in a separate binder. There are many wonderful and very useful original photos that are only on the old sheets. It may also be good to have a reference to clarify any errors in the new pages. For example, to me it seems that the drawings of rear view mirror styles A-C have been left out in the new revision. Good then to have the old pages to refer to.

Again, thanks for the great effort in issuing this revision, which brings the hobby miles forward.

The revisions I got are no help with my 1997 JS. Nothing makes any sense.

Sounds link you need to order the 2011 revisions, if you never bought them earlier.
