Re: ГАЗ-А-АЭРО
That's a truly fascinating, way outside-the-box piece of art, especially to put into production and especially in Russia. I have designed and built 30 special bodies for modified A chassis, but nothing nearly as huge and difficult as that undertaking. Not to detract from the importance of your post, but are cicadas worshiped in Russia?

Re: ГАЗ-А-АЭРО
After you forgive me for my attempt at art critiquing, could you tell us what years that car was in production, how many were produced, what market segment they sold in and any other related info?

Re: ГАЗ-А-АЭРО
Looks like they kept the gas tank in the cowl.

Re: ГАЗ-А-АЭРО
It looks like a 39 Ford got together with a Chrysler Airflow and the off spring fell into a louevering machine. What does Za Rulem mean?

Re: ГАЗ-А-АЭРО
It looks to have 30-31 wire wheels, gas tank in the cowl, and Pierce Arrow headlights.. Airflow inspired and the louver machine (noted above) that it fell into.

Re: ГАЗ-А-АЭРО
Hi Guys, sorry for the late reply.
This car was the result of a PhD thesis "Study of the streamlining of a car" by engineer Aleksey Osipovich Nikitin on streamlining a car to reduce fuel consumption as well as increasing the top speed . Nikitin had been interested in the works of American, German and French engineers in the field of aerodynamics of cars. The work began with the production of mock-ups at a scale of 1:10 and testing them in a wind tunnel at Moscow Aviation Institute. 1513254624184287254.jpg Nikitin believed that the ideal form from the point of view of streamlining was the shape of a drop of liquid, so the models were based with this consideration. After a lot of experiments, the optimal shape of the car was determined; optimal not only in terms of aerodynamics, but also based on technical conditions. A full scale prototype was made using an A chassis and engine. The new metal body was wooden frame lined and featured a V-shaped windshield tilted back at an angle of 45 degrees, running boards were located inside the car, bumpers were removed, etc. The engine featured an aluminum cylinder head with an increased compression ratio of 5.45. Testing showed a 48% improvement in the drag coefficient compared to a standard GAZ A. Overall dimensions and weight of the car were:
Only one of these were made which was painted blue.
