Default Fuel gauge sight glass

Hi Guys,
I want to replace the glass in my Model A fuel gauge.
Could anyone please give me the diameter of the glass?

A shorter answer would be: the glass is a molded part that is thicker than glass from any glass supplier. If no original replacement is available, look for a reproduction. Making a good seal is hard enough with the right parts.

When I purchased the parts to repair and reseal my gas gauge the glass that came with the kit was just a flat piece of glass which I threw away and put the original one back in which had a magnification bubble,29ccpu.

A rock polisher could cut and polish a new magnifying lens if it was real important to have a 'new' one. Or, try a good old car swap meet.

Mike's has them for less than a buck.

They also have a gas gauge rebuild kit. (A9205) Might as well do the whole thing while your at it. Besides you will have to pay shipping...

Yep, I live on the other side of the world and want to do a temporary repair to keep it going until such time as the next order arrives.
I have just ordered tires from Blockley in the UK. It took three days to get to Johannesburg and four weeks to clear customs.
I have been waiting three weeks for some Chevy parts I ordered from Gary (Early Chevy Parts), its been in Joburg for two weeks and goodness knows when it will be released from customs.
So, if I have the correct diameter size, I could ask the lead glass girls to cut me a small window for a temp fix.

I hope this helps....This is an old style lens with the magnifying bubble but I expect it's the same size as a flat lens...

The last pic shows the cork gasket, it's a little larger...

Just did this replace - cork float degraded from cleaning process. Used neoprene gaskets before and again -have had NO leaks at all over the years. Might as well replace float while you are at it. Went with neoprene float, but probably should have used 'brass' as best replace.

I have had success with two O rings and a little rubber grease. Unfortunately tried to be smart and for laughs used a champge cork for a float. Painted and Indian shallaced it well, works great on the Chevy but got saturated and sank within a week in the Model A.
I’ll do a temp fix while I am doing a front suspension overhaul on my E Type as well as a torque converter replacement on my 250SL
Thanks gents
