Default Rear end temperature

I drove my 55 yesterday about 30 mi. and checked the temp. it was 148 deg. is that a good temp. for a just overhauled read axle? Al

How did you determine temp? Have you changed the lubricant?

Did you hit the axle housing center section or did you remove the fill plug to try and take the lubricant temp?

After driving, can you place your hand on the rear housing and not receive critical burns?

Back in the day when I drove a dump truck for a living, on a rainy day the centers were always dry and steaming. This with 90/140 gear lube.

I checked it with an IR gun, the web sight I looked at said a temp below 200 to 250 was ok. Al
