water pumps
Has anyone done a comparison on speedway VS Bob Drake water pumps foe a AB flathead. Speedway prices are about double Drakes & both say improved impeller & sealed bearings.

Re: water pumps
The OEM ones used oiled bushings. These late reproductions are double row bearing and shaft equipped like the more modern ones so the bore is likely different. I doubt if there are a lot of sources for these and they may all come from the same source truth be known. The difference in price may be due to old stock setting on the shelf with older prices but I couldn't really tell you for sure. A lot of folks send their pumps to Skip Haney for his design of impeller. His overhaul prices are reasonable. A person has to have some cores though.

Re: water pumps
I just bought a pair from Joe's Antiques. I believe he gets them from Drakes and apparently had some in his inventory. Joe's prices are usually a littler better than Drakes.

Re: water pumps
I've used Dennis Carpenter pumps for over 4 years and over 6K miles with no trouble. The pumps are on my '48 F-1.

Re: water pumps
I have Skips pumps & coils on my other 34 21 stud but didn't know that he was doing the 47 truck pumps with bearings. I do not have any cores.
Thanks all for your prompt replies. |

Re: water pumps
I have both types Speedway and Drake. If you compare them Drake has a different design impeller. either one worked on my 40.

Re: water pumps
After about 8 years, one of my speedway pumps started to leak. Replaced them with Drake pumps and they have been fine for the last 2 years.
