1930 Tudor door glass

Several of us are in the process of restoring a 1930 Tudor. One of the tasks is to clean up the window cranks and replace the window felts. The two back windows and cranks came out very easy. The two door window cranks came out easy. However, the problem is getting the windows out of the doors.

Would some one who has a 1930 Tudor and has experience removing the door glass please explain in detail how it is done. It looks to me like they built the car around the door windows without any thought about ever removing them without drilling out a number of rivets.

If I remember right it comes out the top of the door.

Tom : I'm restoring a 1930 Tudor. The rear glass can be removed by removing several small bolts ( machine screws) from the D nut, same to install steel plate after installing the felts , top sponge, and glass. On the doors there is a top metal plate that can be removed by removing 3 or 4 small bolts ( machine screws), giving access to the felts. After installing the glass, felts, and plate, glue in the top sponge to complete the installation.Hope this helps you. Regards Grant

Many thanks. I had previously looked on the top of the doors thinking there may be screws there, but I did not see any. I looked again after your post and found them. There are three on the top of each door and they are buried in paint and crud and sit down in a groove.

I've always needed to heat the screws red hot to be able to remove them if they had been in place for a long time .

If you damage the heads screws while removing them, order a replacement set from one of the "A" supply houses. Careful not to use a screw that is too long as the inside top of the door can be damaged.

The print calls for 5/16" long. Also, this should be unpainted when installed.
