Reuse model a oil in another vehicle w oil filter

Ok, this sounds a little wierd, but we don't like to leave unfiltered oil in the Model A for very long, thus we have recommendations to change it after 500 miles or maybe 1000 miles.
My assertion is that the oil is still good for an older vehicle which will filter out stuff relatively quickly, rendering a cleaned up and circulating oil that still has its viscosity and properties. I just drained a gallon of Shell Rotella 15w40 and am thinking it's still good; just needs filtering and keeping in mind the recommended oil type for the next vehicle.

Your idea is not new. Before detergent oil was the norm, people used to reuse oil all the time. Just let it stand till it settled, pour off the clear oil on top and add new oil as required. This reused oil was BETTER than the new oil, in fact, I believe that Rolls Royce used to recommend 50-50 recycled oil and new for some of their engines.
IMHO, today, with detergents, the oil won't settle out so putting it through a filter will do the same thing by removing particular matter but it won't remove other contaminants like fuel and water. One way of overcoming that is to do a long hard drive after putting the old oil in the second engine. The neat will clean things up some.
All that said, I won't be doing it any time soon. 4 litres of new oil is CHEAP insurance and chicken feed compared to the cost of rebuilding an engine.

If it weren't for the carbon it would leave behind, I'd add it to the fuel in the A!

Thanks for both replies. I'm not necessarily trying to save money (though not a bad idea); but am more trying to find a practical use for potentially good oil. Can't see turning it over to the 'TOTALLY SPENT OIL and who-knows-what-else' recyclers.

In the 40's Germany made a couple different brands of one cylinder diesel tractors that ran on drain oil. You'd use a shotgun shell to start the engine.

now some would do that, Chris, and I don't 'knock' it.
For me, I am still stubborn about keeping mine as original as I can, and have a certain respect for the original engineering. I might go against some grain on FB though.

Lots of youtube videos on starting these tractors. They used a blowtorch (NOT an acetylene torch) to preheat the cylinder head before starting, then insert a shotgun shell (BB's removed) into its chamber and then hit it with a hammer. This gave enough cylinder pressure to spin the engine and it would fire up. Other brands of these one lungers were hand cranked using the steering wheel! The wheel with about a 2 foot shaft would slide out of the steering column and be inserted into the flywheel to spin the engine.

FWIW: Heard of guys years ago slowly filtering their used oil through a (4) foot length of copper pipe stuffed with cotton.

Also I have used ether to start difficult diesel engines ..... but .... in a foreign country where ether could be bought anywhere.

I just found this by using Google. Lanz and Field Marshall are the two tractors I had in mind in my earlier reply, but after reading this Google link, I see the Field Marshall is British built.

A fellow from our club, deceased now, had a Studebaker as his good car. It got new oil.
The oil from the Studebaker, went into the truck. Oil from the truck went into the tractor. The oil from the tractor went into his model T. The oil from the T went into the 28 Chev homebuilt motorhome. Oil from the chev went into the lawnmower. Each time "filtering" the oil through his wifes nylon stockings. He had a hiarchy of his vehicles starting with the Studebaker. He met his wife by putting a notice in the church bulletin. He picked her up with the model T for their first date. She had to be coerced into the first date by her landlady. When she saw the old car in the driveway she wanted to cancel this first date.
