1938 & 39 coupes
I owned a 40 DeLuxe coupe way back and now have a 39 Std. coupe. The cars are basically the same from the cowl back. There are many differences but the shell is the same. I know the 1938 DeLuxe has a front end treatment like my 39 Std. but is way different from the cowl back as far as the trunklid and rear fenders go. At a recent cruise someone said that they had a 1938 coupe that he said was the same as my 39. My question is did Henry make a 38 with the same body shell as the 39 and 40 from the cowl back? I have never seen one so I wonder. I know the 38 DeLuxe and Std. had different front ends, what about the rest?

Re: 1938 & 39 coupes
The '38 DeLuxe COUPE (from firewall back) is essentially the same as '37 coupe. '38 SEDANS mimic '39 and '40s from firewall back. DD

1938 DELUXE sedans mimic the 1939 and 1940 sedans from the cowl back. 1938 STANDARD sedans mimic the 1937 humpback, with altered wheelwells so the 37 fender will not fit. 1937-38 firewalls had the indent for the battery. There are structure differences in the windshield header area 1937, 1938, and 1939. Some may have been running changes or to accomodate different wiper systems. Newport Engineering has descriptions/photos on their web site. |
