Default speedster gas tank

i've been looking at speedsters on you tube, i'm planning to build one. several "a" and "t" speedsters seem to be using a "t" gas tank that is standing up on edge rather than laying flat. is this a special tank or a modified "t" tank. i could build my own if i could find the nice neck and filler cap they used. any ideas?

They are special tanks made by Rootlieb in California. http://www.rootlieb.com

thanks! they have some nice products. their speedster kit is shown with a verticle gass tank, but the picture on the gass tank page looks like it lays flat. unless the tank comes with out the fill and outlet fittings mounted i dont see what is being done.

If you are asking about the oval tank shown in when you open the link and page, that is not a Ford tank. It is made for speedsters and the buyer needs to install the outlet and filler casting in the locations of their choice. There really are no set rules when it comes to building a speedster as far as what tank to use and layout of seats etc.

thanks, i hadn't thought about ebay. i wonder what shape those tanks are in. i would be shocked if they are not rusted out, especially the $99.00 one. it looks like it might be the oval shape. i still may try making my own.

Most of the later type reproduction 1920 to 1925 model T oval tanks were made for regular model Ts but parts have been available for some time to modify them and turn them up into the vertical position. This allows for a shorter front to back dimension that will fit in a more limited space. They used to cost less than $200 but not any more. They are around $360 if you can find them. The brass ones for speedsters are way out there are closer to $10K for some of them. This is a link to Brass Works:

The galvanized tanks hold up well as long as they are stored out of the elements.

Even the brass filler cap adapter is high in price but they are available.

The one on eBay looks to be a modern reproduction, so probably would not have the same rust issues as an original era tank. (Maybe?)
Only issue I can see is, didn't see any shipping on it, local pickup. Because it has had fuel in it and even if currently empty, still has fuel residue, could only be shipped ground with hazard material label on the box. Guessing the seller understands that and is why being sold for local pickup.

Galvanized, paint peeling off easily. No rust.

The 9,999 is a placeholder price for the website. I'll change it to 999,999 so it is more clear
