I bet they would, these old cars haven't survived this long if they were not built using the best materials, my doors still open on our 33.

Two things to add here. Lawrie is being modest here. I've been reading through the Ford barn backwards from post #1 forward lately, and he has driven his '33 on much worse roads than that one! Reminds me of a story my father (OldDad in my avatar) told about taking a shortcut from somewhere around Redding California over to the coast at Eureka in his '33 Tudor. His shortcut petered out into a horribly rutted old dirt logging road. He had to move over to let a logging truck pass, and asked the driver if he thought he could make through to the other side. The driver looked over his car and said "You'll make it in that Ford"

Second thing, run that double whitewall question by DavidG, who will have all the answers for you!

Highly recommend reading the old Fordbarn the other.way around, particularly if you missed it the first time around. The knowledge of so many of our sadly departed members will reward you many times over.

When then whitewall tire was introduced they always had the white on both sides. Sometime in 1940, at least on Fords, the single whitewall became standard. Very likely on all brands of tires and all makes of cars.

I decided to take the challenge!

Not really... I was backing up in the dark so we could sit on the beach and view a lunar eclipse last year. I sort of misjudged the whereabouts of the 4 foot deep ditch and the left rear wheel slid down the embankment. We both opened our doors and exited and when we met my buddy with his tow truck next morning, all six doors opened and shut exactly as normal. I'm thinking backup camera......

If you go back far enough in automotive history you will find that very early tires were solid white rubber. To cut down on tire wear they added carbon to the treads only, creating double WW tires, then later to the entire tire (no pun intended) and whitewalls basically became history. (At least that's what I've been told.)

I was wondering where the name for this post came about.I bet the transverese leaf springs helped to give those cars such articulation. There are 'off road' buffs that can't come close to what that car is doing.

The 1939 Fords were the last to have two-white-sides whitewall tires as the WSW option. Prior to the 1940 models, if you ordered WSW they were white on both sides and contrary to the opinions of some hobbyists, they were an RPO (regular production option) throughout the pre-WWII flathead era.

In the Early Ford V8 Club concourse judging '32-'39s with single-side WSW have points deducted for the absence of the inner white wall.
