What engines used an 8cm, eac, & eab cams. Eab is ford, but not sure on the other 2. Thanks in advance, mike

8CM is '49-'51 Mercury, 8BA is '49-'51 Ford, EAB is '52-'53 Ford, EAC is '52-'53 Mercury.

8CM is '49-'50 Mercury; I think they then used the 1CM for 1951. "52's and '53's used the EAC. For Fords, it was 8BA from '49 to '51, then EAB's in '52 and '53. The three you mention are the best stock cams. I haven't been able to find the specs for a 1CM yet.

Edit : Bob, you're always faster than me. The cam in my '51 Merc is marked 1CM; do you know anything else about them?

Tubman, You're more correct than I was. Forgot that 9CM was '49, 0CM was '50, and 1CM was '51Mercury. Brain fart!

Which of those cam is supposed to be best for performance?
I"m thinking maybe 52 53.

Actually the 8CM continued into the early 1951 Model year until the change over to the rotator type valves.

If you haven't been to the "Tilden Cam Technologies" web page (http://www.tildentechnologies.com/Ca...rformance.html, you should give it a once over. Some of the information is missing, but a lot of it's there. They have the specs for 8BA vs. 8CM cams and there is a significant difference. Unfortunately, they don't provide the specifications for 1CM, EAB, or EAC cams. Does anyone perchance have these numbers?

1CM cams are the same as 8CM for all practical purposes. I have never seen an EAC cam however I think they are marked EA. I have an NOS EA cam and it has slightly less duration and lift than the 8CM, and I mean slightly. EA and EAB cams seem to vary quite a bit. Some are like 8BA and some are like 8CM.

EAB is the 2nd hottest cam Ford made. ‘32 being the hottest.

That is not what my testing has shown and I have degreed a number of Ford cams. To me the 8CM and ICM are the hottest. I've never measured an original 32 cam.
would love to if I had one.

Do you have the specs of the 8CM and ICM cams? I had and have an EAB, I think the lift was somewhere around .310 and had a decent duration for a stock cam. The duration figure I don't recall off the top of my head.

It would make sense for didn't they offer the Ford-a-matic and A/C on cars in '52-'53? They needed every once of HP they could get.

I'm running an EAB cam in the 280 and it runs quite well, But the best oart is the way it sounds with dual glas packs. The torque is unbelievable, but it runs out of revs pretty quick. Not that I mind the OD works very well.

8CM and 1CM cams have around .330 lift and 208 deg duration at .050" lift. The EA cam was also very similar. Lift on the EAB cams is similar to what you posted. Duration at .050 is around 200 deg.

From the "Tilden Cam Technologies" page I referenced : "The Mercury 8CM cam had a lift of 0.338, while all of the Ford V8 cams had 0.307 lift." (Emphasis mine.)

It sure would be nice if someone had the factory specs for the EAB.

If you look at the Tilden page, you can see that they have put a lot of effort into it. It doesn't in any way look like a "fly-by-night" operation.

BTW, I left the 1CM cam in the '51 Mercury when I put it into my '51 club coupe. I had a new MAX-1 cam and kit on the shelf, but after a lot of research and soul searching, I decided to stay with the 1CM in such a relatively heavy car. I am very satisfied with its performance. The MAX-1 went into my new 258" engine, and it seems to be a very good cam as well. That engine is going into a car weighing less than 2000 lbs though.
