This is my late '14 delivery, mostly original. It purrs like a kitten and gets driven frequently. Last year, while working on a restoration of an 1800's log cabin, I figured I would throw my tools in the truck, and drive something almost as old as the cabin I was headed to work on. During the day, a fellow stopped by to see our work, and thought the '14 was just yard art. He couldn't believe it was my tranportation for the day. These old trucks are almost bulletproof.

Also, whose dropped axle are you using? Watch for interference issues. 'Lil Red looks like she has a dropped axle but just weak springs. Front spring nearly flat across axle but seems to ride well.

I already purchased Richard's kit to do hydrallic brakes. I already have the axle in, everything works well. My Brother dropped the axle for me.

My 1950 F1. I've been a fan of Sheridan Blue Fords since the 1950's. Hauls parts, lumber, guest beds, Christmas trees., bricks, etc. Don't ya just enjoy being on the road in these old pickups?

Let's start with Bullet; built from 12 cars and 14 trucks. Drove it from 2003 until sold it last year. Then the black 40 pkp; another flathead, which now lives in MS. Drove it, too, for a couple years. I've had shop truckS(two or more!) for the last 5 or 6 years. Max driveable at same time was 3 or 4... a man has got to have BACKUPS! That's what I tell my lovely wife.

I chopped my orange pickemup 4 1/2" by mating the front half from a donor top to the original rear half.

He is back on the road again, and is now called Merlot. The colour pic is Merlot talking to a younger Flathead Truck who works for a living, putting out fires! Byron.

The most fun was the Huckster I built for the kids. The most challenging was the before and after 29 PU. Current project is a 30 PU....my last major project...maybe.

Years ago when I had a real nice 1938 P\U I hated the look of it, so I kept the whole running gear & frame that were near mint, and put a 36' big truck cab on it and sold the 38' body. Now I wish I had it back, that 38'-39' look grows on you! The guy that bought the body slapped it on a late model Ford Ranger chassie, and was on the road in 2 weeks.

It was so long ago, it seems like it was a dream. However, with my current ride, I'm living a dream that was smoldering in me for many years. Life is good.

Here are pictures of my 28 roadster pickup towing a 34 pickup my friend had purchased in 1983. I still have the roadster pickup, the 34 pickup has been gone for years.

The 33 one ton I have had for about 11 years. It's never been restored, has had one repaint and I use it as a work truck. One picture is hauling my 34 4-door sedan and the other is taking down an old blacksmiths shop framed with Model T and Model A frame rails

The 50 pickup my dad bought new. I took my driving test in it in 1966. Have completly rebuilt it with a 283, automatic transmission, 9" rear-end, and a dropped axel. I drove it to work everyday for several years.

Hi I just did join the Barn moments a go and It is going to take me some time to get organized and in the fast lane. it's The Beater Trucks that really cought my eye. Up here in the Napa Valley," The FORD BARN steping stone" we have ben calling them " VALLEY TRUCKS". I will work up a photo log of the locales from the wine country a little bit later.

My entry came to me some 35 years ago From Southern California. (San Pedro, Lomita) aera I'll check the specifics a bit lateor. The Builder Started with a very streight original tan paint 40 Pickup. I think he must have ben in the aircraft busyness judging by all the stainless work, craftsmanship and inovations. I will get back with better details later. for now i am going to try with some photographs. Need to figure out the atachement prosses and spell check.

Your "Amos" was an inspiration to me for years while I was finishing my restoration. I had a 8 1/2 X 11 photo over my workbench to keep me on track. Glad to see you on the Barn again, Byron.

Byron, I missed your post from 2/17. Thanks, I'm glad Amos was helpful....and your Merlot is surely just plain gorgeous....if I were chosing a color for one of these today it would be Merlot's color or Washington blue....however the red will do for now. Amos is off the road for a bit...lost 2nd gear a couple months ago. Waiting for my ship to come in (banana boat from Panama apparently) or an infusion of $$ and/or ambition (would be nice to have both but they seldom arrive at the same time!) to haul out the motor and transmission. Probably sometime in the Spring. Got Clem up on stands now too, redoing wiring harness...mostly original and quite a mess...hope to have it done by the barners meet in a couple weeks. I'm still working, lots of hrs, so do most of the work on weekends when I can find the time.

Wow great trucks. In the 80's dad and I saved a old 46 Ford panel truck from an ol wrecking yard. We totally rebuilt the engine from a shop manual. She ran great with that v-8 flathead. We painted it up royal blue. It had the spare tire that mounted in the passenger side of the body. It was one of those great fun projects, then after she was done we missed working on her (that was alot of the fun) We ended up trading it for a newer pick-up. I sure wish I could track her down now. We lived in Tulare Ca. at the time. She was all stock. I'm just hoping she's still out there (and that she's not been rodded) I'd like to know if anyone out there has seen her around.

I saw her just last week down by San Diego stopped beside the freeway just after midnight. Looks like she's being used by a farmer to transport his field hands but I think they were lost, they had stopped a Border Patrol truck to ask directions and some of them had decided to run across country so they wouldn't be late for work. ..B.

Ok, I'll weigh in here - here's my 41 as recently purchased:





It's a bit of a Mongrel, it has a 9" rear, the x-members been hached out, and it has no engine and box.

It has a later bed whick I am busy narrowing back to the correct width. I am trying to find x-member parts here in the UK but it is proving difficult.

I already have Early ford running gear in 3 cars, so I am thinking of retaining the 9" rear it already has, and setting it up with a 312 Y-block and SROD overdrive box I have been saving for just such a project.

Outwardly it will end up looking pretty stock, except for 15" wheels and radials.

As a new member here, this thread looks like a good place to introduce myself and post some pictures of my truck. I've had this truck since 1974 and use it to transport grain and wine grapes.

About a year and a half ago, I finally did something to fix it up after just doing minimal maintenance over the years.

It got a new wood bed, body work and new paint, engine rebuild, transmission and steering box work, and all new wiring.

In the photos you can see before and after.

It is pretty much all original with 59ab engine, a 4 speed truck transmission followed by a 3 speed transmission. No 2-speed rear end.

Here is one of the New Zealand '41/'42 COE's. Saw this one near Nelson about 12yrs ago. Believe it comes from Blenheim in the Sth Island.
There were a number of car & commercial imports during the War era that do not show up on Ford Canada export figures to NZ. They came in for govt. services & agricultural sector.

Surfing in the web recently found a photo of a truck, I think is a ford 32´ the curiously of the photo is the inscription on the sides ( Holinger- Weidmann) (quesos y hielo) (Humboldt, provincia de Santa Fe). Why? because I live in the province Santa Fe near to the city of Humboldt. (Holinger- Weidmann) the company was selling cheese and ice. When they bought the truck, the company was send a picture and a negative of this truck to the magazine (mundo ford) with the hope that the manager of the magazine publicate the photo...
I never saw a body like this. I don´t know the truck was fabricate in USA or is a modify truck constructed in Argentina.

Hi Ted,

Finally got time to take some pictures in the cab of my truck. Other than new gauges to replace the old non-working gauges, I haven't done anything to the inside of the cab yet. That's another project.

Taking the entire engine cover off is not easy. So just have pictures of the passenger side panel removed. Have to take the passenger seat out to get it out. Didn't take the panel on the driver's side out, but the view is similar. You can see the 2 shift levers for the 2 transmissions.

Most engine work is done via one of the side access openings, or for the distributor, by lying on my back and reaching up to unbolt the distributor. Once loose, it takes some work to get it out past the 6 blade truck fan.

I've spent several weeks in Invercargill but I thought someone told me the museum wasn't open to the public.

Even though I didn't see the museum, Invercargill is still one of my favorite places. And I really liked Queen's Park.

The Richardson museum is not open to the public but I have been told that they are reasonably responsive to people with a genuine interest.

Of the COEs in NZ I mentioned, one is at the Richardson museum and I am told that the other restored example is still in Blenheim. I don't know what happened to the third. It was complete and in good condition. Apparenly there was another very rusty example but I'm not sure about that.

I think you'd find if you were from the other side of the world and enquired to the right person well in advance you'd have little trouble getting through. The first time I went through there was about '96 and I'm not sure if the Airflow was quite finished at that stage, but Bill Richardson was one of the most genuine people you could ever hope to meet, and gave many a tour personally to clubs and groups. He was a great loss to the community here - as was shown by the procession at his funeral.

I was only recently given a copy of the book that was produced about the museum and I haven't had a chance to read right through it yet, but it's an amazing collection that I hope continues to be well looked after and and added to.

And to totally hijack the thread Invercargill is pretty underrated - Queens Park is one of the best things they did when they set out this city - it's part of a 'green belt' that runs right through the middle of the city to right near where I live that will never be built out.

On a more serious note, please return some of that Ford tin that you've pinched from down here Ted, I'm in desperate need of some of it right about now!

Here are two 34 pickups. One photo is a 'driving' shot from the cab of "the beater" and the other is a photo of a friend's pickup that he finished restoring a couple of years back. It is a NZ pickup that had been off the road since 1957. My friend has owned it 25 years or so.

I have been trying to upload other photos but for some reason they are rejected. These are jpg images well within the file size and no different in that respect to the two that have been accepted.

Hi guys not to poach this thread but I went through the Richardson museum just before Bill died.A bunch of us were touring the south island on our motor bikes and I called Bill and he told us to come around.The most amazing collection and he told us all about each truck and were he found them.As I'm into 37s he had several.He was really into the dual axil trucks and showed us all the different ways drive was transmitted to the back axil.Thornton was one company that ford used but there were others.My film camera shredded the film so I lost all the photos.The most amazing thing was the beauty of the american trucks as compared to the english and european ones.Even in the 50s and 60s the english trucks had no driver comfort what so ever.Cheers Tony.

Pickups have always been my favorite. 'Lil Red in the snow is my current driver. The wine colored was my first 34pu found on a farm in pieces near Huntingdon PA. There was not enough left to put back together original so I did the next best thing to get it back in service. Wish I had her back!

This 51 F-1 I bought from the original owners nephew. It had a flathead 6 and a non syncro 4 speed. It was super low miled (50,000) and ran drove extremly well and tight. Everything worked. Had to sell it when I got laid off

I'm not sure if they are rare? 3/4 ton, bed was longer than 6ft., can't remember exactlt how long probably 8ft bed. But the mrs. wanted a house. She's happy!

Here's my latest addition... I'm back up to 3 40 pkps that I can drive. A man has got to have backups... I keep telling my wife. BTW, we're starting her kitchen remodel job.

I bought this one in York, PA. Seller had it 20 yrs; I contacted the previous owner who had it 31 yrs and had the 53 Merc engine built that's in it today. I'm still chasing the history. I think there was one other owner before we get back to the guy that built the truck and had it pinstriped around 1957.

Offenhauser heads and 4 bbl manifold w/390 Holly; complete with Weber carb tuning plate. Mallory distributor, too. Stock 3 spd w/open drive to 1965 Mustang rearend w/2.79 ratio... cruizes at 70-75 MPH according to the seller.

It still has the original windshield (both sides) and back glass that were manufactured in Nov of 1939. Can you believe the SAME windshield?!?!

I'm having a ball with it. Gets lots of attention.

Hi I'm Dave from Canada.There doesn't seem to be a intro forum here so here it goes.I am new to Ford barn,We picked this and a parts truck up in the fall.You guys have a geat site here and enjoy reading,all is very helpful.I have a 32 tudor with a bb chev 4sp and a 34 Ford tudor My pop's somehow claimed which is going to have a factory relieved flatmotor with Canadian aluminum heads. Always looking for for more stuff to bring home,so when I found this I had to have it.It had a seized 302 in it I was going to replace,but was given a minty c69a and trans which that has been stored for 30or40+ years.I plan on running the flatty now and useing a few speed parts we've been collected over the years.

Yes Manual, it was a wash trough and a 3 seater lounge for my shed that I got from the Blue nurses garage sale.
The A is doing sterling duty at the moment,my boy is using it as a go to work car for the last month while he fixes his Torana,
He tells me that with the 5.5 head on now it will drag off a 4wd at the lights, I hope its still in one piece when I get it back.

1933 Ford BB Truck- Flat 4 cylinder
Heres my project. Found in an Alabama garage in 2009 where she was parked since 1969. Druuug her out and brought her home. Got her running in a couple of days. Decided to make this project about teaching my sons the way of restoring a piece of history. Word is 280 of these were built but I am not sure. It was built in May 1933. I would like to add all the painting thus far on the truck is supplied by KBS Rust seal- I absolutely love the stuff.

Sweet 35, next to 40-41's they are my fav. I do not like '36's though...

My 58 GMC had a lot of rattles, it was good fun isolating them one by one and quietening it down. Things like sheared bumper mbolt and broken rad brace were making a lot of noise.

I'd love to be doing the same routine on the creaky bones 41.

License plate is 1947.

Also a 1939 that I spotted in the car corall in Hershey 2013. It was very early Saturday morning, having rained hard Friday. Notice the water on the dashboard in the last two shots. Probably been a long time since it sat outside in the rain.

The model A's an award winner, sort of. Hooter girls pick. The 34 cab is being dug up by Mr. Potter (his real name) discovering "its a wonderful life" The 1951 is a Kansas grain truck powered by an Olds, hoisting a 40 Merc.

I sold the Model A, but kept the bumper for sentimental reasons. If you look in the previous post, its a 3X6 wood beam.

Here's some pictures of early Ford trucks that I have had, or still have. The 50 my Dad bought new.I took my driving test in it in 1966. It was the only vehicle we had until 1960. One picture is of the truck in 1956 the other is how it looks today. The 28 Roadster Pickup when I got it in 1972 and how it looks today. I never quite got it finished. 2 scenes of my back yard in the 1980's. Everything is gone except the 1933 Ford based school bus. Still have it. one picture of my 1946 1-ton. Put a small block Chevy in it and made two trips to California in it. This is a picture of the first load. It's resting now, I don't use it any more. The 33 1-ton I've had for 18 years and I've gotten a lot of use out of it as a work truck. It's all original with one repaint years ago. Under the cowling it is O/D green. The green 32 BB was shipped to England. The last one is my current 33 pickup project.

Here's mine as found after 50 yrs in a barn in S.F. In the family for over 65 yrs. Built out of wrecking yard parts in 51'. 37' cab on a 36' truck with an 8BA.

I believe it was last licensed in the 1970s, municipal plate on it when I got it was from 1963.

Not a fan of stake bodies. Going to leave it like this for now, may do something creative down the line with a vintage, rounded single horse trailer body, turned around. It'd have to be 'just right' tho...
