Question Inherited Schramm Air Compressor - Need Help

Hi All,
I recently inherited a Schramm air compressor. Our father was going to fully refurbish this machine before he unexpectedly passed. We intend on selling it, but want to find the right home for it. We don't just want it to end up at someone's garage, getting used to it's death. I know very little about the compressor. I just bought a new battery and when I turn the key, the engine turns freely and air builds up immediately. I don't even know if it takes unleaded or diesel. It's been sitting for about 5 years. (Dad broke his hip and wasn't able to move around much the last few years).
Thanks in advance to all the information. I'm new to this forum and will do my best to provide the requested info and to reply.
Please feel free to offer any advise or comments.

Check the second picture. Looks like a 4cyl. to me judging by the distributor.

It's only got two spark plugs.

They made them 4 6 and 8 cyl. The 8 was two 4 cylinder models with a clutch inbetween them. The engines and compressors were all made by schramm. The earlier ones were conversions on ford motors like smith made.

Then it runs on 2 and pumps on 2. I think that makes it a 90 cfm. The 6 cyl model we had was called a 105. Someone also added rhe GM alternator. It should have had a generator

Like any motor it need 3 things to run, spark, compression, fuel, trouble shoot each system separately. Can you tell if the tank smells like gas or diesel.?

Why would a diesel need carb and spark plugs? Would not it just run off of compression and use injectors?

This was a very cool little Schramm tractor/crawler with a built in air compressor that was at the 2014 EFV-8C/A Central National Meet in Springfield, Illinois. If you or someone you know is a member of the V-8 Club, you could probably track the owner of this machine down and get some information on your compressor.

Just noticed that the owners/restorers names are listed in the last picture.

It runs on gasoline, it's got a carb and spark plugs and distributor and coil.
Not dervish.
Cool thing though, if it turns free as you said, I'd hazard a guess it will probably run. If the valves open and close, and you've got compression, clean the plugs an points, get a spark, clean out carb, fill with gas, woohoo!
Martin.

It is a neat piece of equipment, but I am trying to figure out why you would need a mini bulldozer with a compressor on it, or a compressor that could move dirt.

Perhaps the compressed air took the place of hydraulic pumps to run the steering and the blade?

The last pic tells the story. For pneumatic tools ...

I'm not afraid of heights, but that would be a bit scary riding the face of the Grand Canyon in that little paperweight! Looks like a fun little boy-toy though.

Having a blade on the front would negate the use of another piece of equipment to level a work area.

Right. Now I see this is not really a piece of earth moving equipment. It's a mobile all-terrain portable air-compressor!

I worked for a company years ago that had several Schramm air compressors in the form of a 6 cyl., gasoline powered tractor mounted on rubber tires. The engine ran on 4 cylinders and pumped air on 2. On one side of the tractor, there was a large air reservoir. On the other side was a similar sized tool box. The tractors were use by bridge crews to move their heavy air tools to remote sites and provide an air supply to operate those tools. At first glance, they looked like an ordinary tractor with a big tool box attached. Same premise as the crawler - but the crawler is much neater.

I just now read this thread looking for info on the Gordon Smith compressor. I owned a Schramm air compress or for quite a few years. Sold it 3 years ago. It had a four cylinder Buda engine. I understand that Buda engine was used in a lot of material handling fork lifts. Just a little additional info to digest. Don/WI
