32-34 zenith carb
I mentioned in another thread that I bought 4 carbs this morning.....
well one looked odd and says zenith on it. I then summized that it is for a model B- having the square float chamber. were these decent carbs? better or worse then a standard zenith for a model A? thanks |

Re: 32-34 zenith carb
I run a model B carb on my 30 Coupe. Great pickup and acceleration. The B carb has an additional "power jet" that supplies gas through the throttle shaft supplying extra gas when the throttle is wide open. I love my B carb. Wanna sell it?

Re: 32-34 zenith carb
The "square float" carbs work better on the "A" than the "round drum" type. Not so subject to dying at stops.

Re: 32-34 zenith carb
I agree about the float being better. I've never had problem with dying at stops. Be advised... practically impossible to get a new float for these B carbs that fits right, Repos are a mess...float hits on needle valve and float flange is soldered in wrong place. I bought 2 that wouldn't even fit into the float chamber.

Re: 32-34 zenith carb
The square (actually rectangular) float B carbs have a different idle jet arrangement than the round drum float B carbs. If the round float idle jet is clear and without any gunk it will idle just as well as the "square" (rectangular) float type.

Re: 32-34 zenith carb
I have a B carb. Took it all apart to rebuild. Put it in a 5 gallon bucket of Berryman Chem Dip for a week. Rinsed it out, blew it out. Seems like it accelerates nice till I floor it. If I het up just a vary little bit it seems fine. I ran a wire down through the power jet tube too...what could be wrong? If I take that fuel line loose the gas sure does flow! LOL

Re: 32-34 zenith carb
I consider a B carb to be superior to an A carb, here's why! First off, B carbs have a larger throat (1.250) which can process more fuel, air mixture. The mod. A is starved for gas. It needs this. Second, The float swings crosswise to the A float. No more pesky stalling at a sudden stop which A carb have been known to do. Third, There is an accellerator tube that provides slightly more gas on acceleration than the A carb. Incidentally, the A engine with a B carb manifold will perform better by 1 to 2 HP just having the bored out runner. Reference, Piriano's Dyno tests.
