I think I've gone to dozens of places where I bought everything but what I went there for. And,dozens more where I may have bought nothing, but made friends and bought and traded with them for years after.I once sold a 53 Chevy to an older fellow, and said I would deliver it.I drove it to his house, and bought a Model A coupe he had owned for over 40 years. It wasn't for sale, but he told me he had pretty well figured out he was never going to get around to it.I told him I had a couple of A's,and he said maybe I should buy his.He put a price on it and I took it.A friend fell in love with it,and he still drives it to this day.If it hadn't been a 29 I would probably still have it.I was just partial to the 30-31's.

CraigsList is fading away somewhat but still worth looking at.
Our best buy there was 6 very nice 19" wheels for $10 each....

Whenever someone comes over to my place for a item. I make sure they leave with a full truck of parts.

I delivered a Model A I worked on for a fellow south of Springfield Illinois yesterday and my wife and I spent some time hitting the antique stores along the highway. I found 3 kr Wilson tools, two of them a pair of BV-155 pinion wrenches ( same as A but with B part number). $13.50 each and one tr2 motor lift fixture. For $10.
Can’t believe it. I’ve got most of the krw but hadn’t seen the BV prefix wrenches before.
You never know what you are going to find. Came home and looked on eBay and there was a Duby tilt gauge on there and snagged it too. It was my lucky day

Back in 2001 I went to look at a flathead V-8 on Craigslist and ended up buying 17 truck & trailer loads of Model A parts. 50+ motors, 17 frames, 54 doors 30 fenders, 50 rad. shells, 60 wheels, 400 brake shoes, 40 axle housings and tons of misc. parts. Sold lots of stuff over the last 20 yrs. and made a lot of new friends. The big thing was it got these parts back into circulation and used again.

A few years ago a friend was clearing out an old chicken house that the owner had filled with A mechanical parts. He had started saving them in the late 40's,and just piled up the stuff. No sheet metal, just chassis parts. We never really understood his intent.I ran into my friend with a trailerload of parts on his way to the scrapyard. When he lets the clutch out he pretty much knows how much weight he has on board. He said if I wanted the load I could have it for $1500.I had to NOT look at the load,he was being pretty generous,as the dozen or so loads all scaled for $17-$1900 each.Interestingly enough, while there were a couple hundred wheels, there were no tires. He heated a woodworking shop with wood, and would burn tire chunks in it at night. Then back to the wood during the day.

A past treasurer of our club died a few years ago and his wife left everything just as it was left. She died 3 years later so it was down to their 2 daughters and one son in law to sort through decades of collection. The complete cars went to auction but not being car people, the kids didn't know where to start with the sheds full of parts. They rang the club and asked would be have someone able to help. The President and I spent a weekend going through it all, making piles for the different makes as best we could. Amongst the stuff was an early '28 chassis, scuttle, 1933 B engine and gearbox and a lots more Ford iron. I bought it all and when I put it with what I already had, I listened and I was sure I could hear a car in there trying to get out. What came out was a distressed farm ute with buckboard try (plumber's tray here). I now have 4 Model As and this one is my favourite, not only because of the attention it gets but it is by far the safest one. I fitted retractable sat belts, anti burst door locks, brakes with my conversion which makes them wayyy better than original and several other upgrades. Being a utility, already with a well used appearance, I am not afraid to use it as such. A load of gravel, sand, cement, soil, long items that I can't carry any other way and just about anything else go in the back when I need a suitable vehicle. One time, I was collecting an order of plumbing stuff including lengths of pipe. There was almost a fight amongst the guys in the yard for who was going to load it. Guess it was their favourite too.
My holy grail would be to make a traveller based on a Model A but with a bit longer chassis. An AA chassis shortened would probably be best but in 20 years, I have seen only 1 AA advertised here and it was not the sort of vehicle I'd want to cut down - it was too nice. Sourcing one from the US is a possibility but I'd also need front and rear end for it and by that stage, I think it would have to have a title. That is a whole different problem for someone like me to get my head around because we don't have titles for cars.

well today it is impossible to ship a car out of the USA wo a title. however, it is not impossible to ship "parts". no title needed.

At what point do the authorities consider a plie of parts, a car? Where is the cut off? I have been told that a chassis in the same container as the front and rear ends would be problematic.
