PPG sgl stage concept
My 35 Pickup is finally ready to begin painting. My color is Dearborn Blue and after reading thru all the posts I can find on the Barn have decided on PPG Sgl Stage Concept urethane paint. I also have been searching and asking if anyone might have the mixing formula or code that I can take to a PPG Paint Supplier to mix and have had no luck so far. Would there be someone who might have that information and could share ?. Thanks for any help, advice or direction

Re: PPG sgl stage concept
I'd look into TCP Global's Restoration single stage. They have all the codes and cost is $150/gallon.

Re: PPG sgl stage concept
I plan on using the same single stage paint as you. When I asked them about the formula they suggested that I bring in a sample off the car. My cowl vent will work fine as it is not faded etc. By the way I belonged to IBEW before I retired.

Re: PPG sgl stage concept
Hello Jakno, The PPG 2 part, single stage paint system is ideal for these older cars.
As has been stated, each paint system type has it's own color and tint components. So you will do best to simply furnish a sample to be color matched to your paint type, by a good and skilled technician, and they can do sparkeling new or slightly faded. |

Re: PPG sgl stage concept
I had my 36 painted with Concept. We used Sheridan Blue which I think is a 50 Ford color. I'm sure if I told people it was Washington Blue, no one would know the difference. It is just a touch darker.

Re: PPG sgl stage concept
I don't know what sort of PPG distributor you have in your area but the one in mine does not match colors. They are more geared for home type paint than for automotive type. This makes it impossible for a person to get matches unless you can find a color very near the one you need in the PPG chip sets for the Concept urethanes . I love the stuff. It's just like the Deltron that I used to use at a previous job in a different part of the country. It is easy to apply and easy to repair if you have a run or sag but not having a distributor that matches color makes it limited for my use. I still use it every chance I get though. I just have to settle for the shades of color close to what I want which is fine if your not repairing an older paint finish or needing a match to an older color shade that may not be in their chip set.

Re: PPG sgl stage concept
Thanks to everyone for coming to the rescue with Dearborn Blue PPG Paint information. I now have a PPG Formula (thanks Dave C), a cross reference to the color in Nason and I have the backside of my glove box door to take to the PPG Paint Store in Bangor, ME. I'm sure they will be able to mix what I need.
Now if we can just nudge the outside thermometer above 32 Degree's !

Re: PPG sgl stage concept
Painted the 35 pickup cab today in Dearborn Blue PPG Sgl Stage Concept Acrilyic Urthane. It's black inside the garage and blue out in the sunlight. I have the paint mixing formula from the PPG paint dealer if anyone is interested.
My thanks to you folks on the Barn for helping me along. Body & fenders up next

Re: PPG sgl stage concept
From one lineman to another, PPG has always been my first choice also. Although I would like to check out TCP Global brand. Yours is looking good.

Don't count support from TCP. Don't run out of paint, they can't match paint much, sometimes it's good and the next time it is awful. They charge $60 to match as well. Next time I'll buy 2 gallons when I need one and won't run out. I've got a 28 RPU rock moss green in the driveway waiting for warm weather to re-shoot the a door after I ran out of paint. I sent them a panel to match. A $240($60 for paint and $60 to match a quart twice) lesson in buying enough paint.... With the awful matches of TCP even after two tries I gave up and had a local store match a quart for me. Last edited by mrtexas; 02-11-2016 at 09:05 PM. |

Re: PPG sgl stage concept
Jakno - I would like the formula. I have a 36 Tudor I need to match colors on. I always thought I had Washington Blue, but from your pics and description sounds like I may have been wrong. I'd like to try Dearborn I may like it more. Thanks Pat

Re: PPG sgl stage concept
I am using single stage PPG Sheridan Blue on my 51 Ford woody. Have the paint but haven't found a good painter in the San Diego area. Anybody know one in SoCa?
